1644 – 1647 – Hopkins Witch Trials

Matthew Hopkins was an English witch-hunter whose career flourished during the time of the English Civil War. He claimed to hold the office of Witchfinder General, although that title was never bestowed by Parliament. His witch-hunts mainly took place in the eastern counties of Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk.

He is believed to have been responsible for the deaths of 300 women between the years 1644 and 1647
